Houston Healthcare Game of the Week: The Peach Co Trojans vs The Cedar Grove Saints

This week in the Class AAA playoffs, the Peach Co Trojans will be traveling to take on Cedar Grove. The two teams met on the field for the first time last year. The game took place in the finals and saw Cedar score a touchdown with seconds left on the clock. The Saints won the matchup 14-13 and eliminated Peach Co from the 2018 playoffs. The Trojans will certainly be looking to enact some payback this go-round.

The Peach Co Trojans enter the quarterfinals following last week’s 35-0 shutout home win over Calhoun. The team is 11-1 overall in 2019. Over the course of the 12 games played thus far, the Trojans have averaged 46.17 points per game on offense and allowed only 12 points on defense. Peach Co has played a grueling non-region schedule this year and remained on top. Their opponents have included 6A Northside, 6A Lee Co, 6A Houston Co, and 4A Mary Persons. The Trojans held off Northside’s rally and won 21-13 after being up 21-0 in the 1st quarter. Peach demolished Lee Co 40-17 after Lee shutdown the Trojans 33-0 last season. The team’s one defeat came against Houston in a tense 32-31 overtime loss. The Trojan’s have truly had an incredible season and seem committed to winning it all this year. The school is led by 13-year head coach Chad Campbell.

Cedar Grove comes into this game following a 49-13 home win against Benedictine and is 10-2 overall in 2019. Through the 12 games so far, the team has averaged 34.58 ppg on offense and allowed 11.58 on D. Cedar has also played some fierce competition this season. Two of their opponents, Alabama Central and McEachern, have been 7A teams. The Saints fought hard against AL Central but lost 24-20. Their matchup with McEachern wasn’t as close, and the team wound up losing 29-7. The school is led by first-year head coach Miguel Patrick.

Peach (#1) and Cedar (#2) are the top two teams in 3A. Peach may be the slight favorite, but Cedar won’t make for easy pickings. The Saints will be fighting hard in hopes of advancing and possibly securing a second consecutive 3A championship. It’s sure to be a clash of titans and could quite possibly go down to the final buzzer or even overtime. The game will be held at Cedar Grove’s home stadium in De Kalb Co on Friday (11/29) at 7:30pm. The winner of this matchup will take on the winner of Hart Co vs Greater Atlanta Christian in the semifinals.
