Houston Healthcare High School Basketball Highlight Team of the Week: The Veterans Lady Warhawks

Already this season, The Veterans Lady Warhawks (located in Kathleen, GA) have proven themselves to be one of the best girls programs in Central Georgia. The team is currently ranked #24 in the state and #632 nationwide! This Tuesday, the girls had a big 60-40 win over the Houston Co Bears, a team that previously only had four losses this season. Some other major competitors the girls have taken down include Northside, Warner Robins, Bainbridge, Harris Co, and Lee Co.

The top scorer on their team is #3 Tamia Luckey, a 5’7 senior with a current per-game average of 12.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 0.1 blocks. With the exception of blocks, her numbers are way above the national average. Her one double-double this season was in a Dec 7th matchup against the Northside Eagles in which Tamia scored 11 points and got 10 rebounds. Her highest scoring game thus far was on Dec 10 in a 39-28 home win over the Perry Lady Panthers (Luckey scored 21 of those 39 points).

Two other players of note are 6’1 senior #20 Stacie Jones and 5’8 Junior #23 Zykeria Jenkins. Jones is the second top scorer on the team (averaging 11.7 ppg) and Jenkins is third with an average of 8.4 ppg. Jones had a double-double in their 66-52 home win over the Demonettes last Friday night, and recently surpassed 1,000 career points & career rebounds during the Mary Persons Christmas Tournament a couple of weeks ago. Jenkins had one D-D back in November in an 80-48 road win over Wilkinson Co. Both of these girls are immensely talented and together with Tamia, they make up the Lady Warhawks Big 3.

The Lady Warhawks are currently 16-2 overall this season. Tonight (01/17) they’ll face the Peach Co girls team, ranked #385 in GA. The Lady Warhawks have another big game coming on January 25th when they travel to again take on the Warner Robins Demonettes. The girls have proven themselves to be truly fierce competitors this season and I can’t wait to see where the team goes from here.
