Start with GMC… And Go Anywhere: Andrew Hall

Georgia Military College Warner Robins provides affordable associate and Bachelor degrees for a variety of majors with a schedule that can be designed to fit you– day or night.  Located just minutes away from Robins Air Force Base, Georgia Military College is the perfect choice for traditional and nontraditional students, featuring one of the largest dual enrollment programs in the state, a program designed to minimize textbook expense, online classes, free tutoring, financial aid options, and no out of state tuition.

Andrew Hall graduated from GMC Warner Robins in the summer of 2019 with an Associate of Science in Business Administration. Originally from Phenix City, Alabama, Andrew moved to the Warner Robins area after graduating high school. His aunt worked in a local hospital and served as the initial inspiration for Andrew to pursue a career in the medical field. As he explored options, his uncle mentioned GMC as an affordable, sensible choice, especially for pre-nursing majors.

While completing his core classes, Andrew found employment with a hospital and began a short-lived journey into that field. He found the work rewarding but also felt perhaps the path wasn’t best for his personality or interests. It was during this time that Andrew discovered a new passion for numbers and problem-solving. He describes those first math classes taken at GMC as cathartic: “I realized that numbers just made sense to me. Everything is a puzzle, and everything has a solution.” He credits the support of faculty members such as Professor Williford and Professor Prindle (as well as many others) for helping him understand and engage with the very subject he once believed to be “too difficult” in high school. Andrew visited his professors in their offices daily to review problems and increase his understanding: “They always welcomed me inside and allowed me to ask whatever I wanted.” After considering the practical applications of numbers in his daily life, Andrew made the decision to change his major to Business Administration and completed the degree.

After leaving GMC, Andrew enrolled with Middle Georgia State University to work towards a four-year degree in the same discipline. He now works in higher education and wishes to pursue career opportunities within that realm: “I’d like to help resolve the issues plaguing our educational system today and determine what students need, what they’re lacking, how we can provide for them and foster success.” He describes the support of both faculty and staff at GMC as the foundation of that desire. “Every advisor, every professor always took time to help me and acknowledged me as a person, not a number. Maybe that’s what other schools are missing.” Andrew aspires to eventually become a president or vice president of a college/university. While that career path is grounded in ambition and hard work, Andrew declares, “You can’t go into something– school or otherwise– feeling defeated. The mountain is already tough to climb, but you have to start climbing– or you’ll never get there.” He expresses gratitude for the opportunities GMC provided in helping him adjust to that climb.
