Winning the 2020 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Region 17 Championship, the Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Titans (23-10) were able to secure an automatic bid to the 73rd National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, March 16-21, 2020.
During the NJCAA selection show on Monday, the 24-team bracket was revealed and the No. 23 seeded CGTC Titans learned that their first opponent in the national tournament will be the reigning NJCAA champions No. 10 Vincennes University Trailblazers (Vincennes, Indiana). The Titans will play on Monday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
The winner of the first-round matchup will face No. 7 USC Salkehatchie (27-4) on Tuesday, March 17 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
With a 28-5 overall record during the 2019-20 season, the Vincennes Trailblazers received an at-large bid to the tournament after losing 67-78 in the Central District Finals against John A. Logan College. This year will mark the eighth consecutive national tournament appearance for the Trailblazers.
Returning to Hutchinson for the third straight year, and fourth overall, Coach Reco Dawson is no stranger to the NJCAA tournament. The difference this time is that sophomore Champ Dawson is the lone returning player from last year’s tournament appearance. The Titans will lean on the strong veteran leadership of their sophomores and talented freshmen who are looking to make their mark on their tournament.
