Houston Healthcare High School Baseball Team of the Week: Northside Eagles Varsity Boys

The Northside Eagles are coming off of a high scoring 11-9 Wednesday night home win over rival Warner Robins and are currently 6-2 overall this season. The Eagles are getting ready to begin region play at home tonight against Lee Co at 6:00pm. Northside has taken two losses thus far this season. Their most recent being this past Tuesday when they lost on the road to Howard 17-4 while the first came on February 21st when they were defeated by Perry 4-3.

Northside struggled in region play last season going 1-11 and only winning their last game of the season over Coffee 5-4. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s looking like the Eagles will be much more competitive this go around. The team opened their season back on February 10th at home against Baldwin and won big, 16-1. Since then, Northside defeated Veterans 10-2 and had a 4-2 win over Perry in a rematch game earlier this season. The Eagles have played Howard twice, destroying them in the first matchup with a final score of 12-2 and then losing in the 2nd by an equally resounding 17-4. Northside shows great promise as a team, but they will need to perform more consistently if they hope to go far in 2020.

The Eagles have only had one region game against the Valdosta Wildcats back on March 6th. They swept the floor with them, finishing the game 16-9. With that said, the region teams Northside will soon be going up against present a serious challenge. The Eagles will have to execute in pitching and play great offensively to have a shot at the region title. Northside’s biggest region games will be against Houston Co. Their first matchup against HOCO will be a road game set to take place on April 7th then the Eagles will host the Bears in a doubleheader on April 10th.

Northside is looking to make the Playoffs in 2020, but they will have to win a few games in the region if they want to avoid the cellar of Region 1-AAAAAA for the second consecutive season. Eleven of Northside’s final seventeen games will be region games, but they do have six non-region games remaining on their schedule. Those games include:

03/16 vs Peach Co

03/23 vs Stratford Academy

04/01 vs Veterans

04/02 @ Warner Robins

04/06 @ Stratford Academy

04/13 vs Hawkinsville
