Review: Hold My Beer Vol. 2

I confess that I’ve only been on the Randy Rogers bandwagon since last year’s Hellbent and that up until this point, I’ve only been peripherally aware of Wade Bowen— but their latest collaboration, Hold My Beer Vol. 2, has made me a believer of both. Produced by all-around Texas legend Lloyd Maines, HMBV2 also features a host of top tier musicians and guest shots from Ray Benson and Shooter Jennings. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Rogers & Bowen to the average Americana fan– the songs range from honky tonk to honky tonkier– but if you’ve been wondering where the heart and steel of country music disappeared to since it left radio, you’ll be pleased as punch to find it here. Hold My Beer Vol. 2 is pure country fun, full of bravado, humor, and songs you’ll be singing along to in no time. It’s a perfect album to kickstart or maintain any number of indoor/outdoor activities that may or may not require an adult beverage. Unfortunately, with our current state of prescribed social distancing, you may have to settle simply for your own back deck or living room (we’re partial to dancin’ in the kitchen ’round the Irons household). But the good news is that Bowen and Rogers have a virtual album release party planned for tonight (Thursday, May 7th @ 10pm Eastern) and streaming on Facebook here. Hold My Beer Vol. 2  officially drops on Friday, May 8th.
