Interest in creating a scholarship to support Adult Education students at Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) grew over the last few months for the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties, and now it has become official.
Rotary Club President Lu Byrd and previous president Donna O’Neal presented CGTC Advancement Specialist Carmen Davis, Putnam County Center Director Carrie Dietrich, and CGTC Adult Education Site Manager & regional lead for Baldwin and Putnam County Kimberly Hicks-Grable a check for $320 to the CGTC Foundation to begin funding literacy initiatives.
The Rotary Club established the scholarship to support those seeking to obtain high school equivalency credentials and beyond. In honor of National Literacy Week in January, they presented the check.
“We are delighted for our Club to present this scholarship for the needs of Putnam County adult education students,” said Byrd, “Supporting students and literacy is an initiative our club has looked forward to supporting in the new year.”
Deeply rooted in the community, the Rotary Club’s mission is to encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, helping those in the community to reach their goals and become productive citizens.
This scholarship will be awarded to eligible student residents of Putnam County, with other requirements determined by the CGTC Foundation, for purchasing a GED test.
