NewTown Macon will launch the Downtown Macon Hype Team this Sunday, May 16 during The Market from 11am to 3pm.
The Hype Team is an initiative of NewTown’s Main Street Macon Board Committee. Members of the Main Street Macon board recognized that despite the progress and improvements being made downtown, some members of the community have not visited downtown recently to see the new businesses that have opened or to participate in the many events held downtown annually. The Hype Team mobilizes community members who are advocates for downtown and provides them with the tools to promote the district positively on social media and to create a
positive visitor experience in the urban core.
“The goal of the Hype Team is to get community members and visitors hyped up about our incredible downtown,” said Emily Hopkins, Main Street Macon Manager and Director of Place at NewTown Macon. “Our Main Street board realized we have many cheerleaders who are excited about and proud of the progress being made downtown and we wanted to encourage more people to share the positive news about everything happening in the urban core. They came up with a brilliant solution of assembling those cheerleaders on the same team and spreading a united message that downtown has something to offer everyone in our community.”
Members of the Hype Team post weekly on their personal social media accounts about new businesses opening, events, and public space improvements. Team members also volunteer at four events held downtown throughout the year and work as ambassadors. Team members will wear branded orange shirts and assist visitors by providing directions and recommendations.
“The Hype Team is all about ensuring our downtown visitors have the resources needed for a joyful experience,” said Scott Mitchell, chair of Main Street Macon’s marketing committee and
owner of Travis Jean Emporium and The Bohemian Den.
Hype Team members will take to the streets this Sunday, May 16 during NewTown’s Market that takes place from 11am to 3pm on Poplar Street between First and Second Street. Visitors who come downtown can ask Hype Team members for directions, recommendations, or any questions that will help them have a fun and engaging downtown experience.
