Ramseur Records has just released Interstate Lullaby: Lost But Found, a deluxe digital edition of the David Childers & The Serpents 2020 album that features alternate tracks and one previously unreleased recording. To celebrate, Sound and Soul is proud to premiere a video of David Childers performing this new song, “Quiet in the House of the Rising Sun”.
“Writing songs for me is a long process with no pattern or structure other than sometimes writing words down as they come to me and going back later to try to develop a song from them. Then again, a song might just drop out of the blue, fully formed and ready for consumption in the breweries and coffee houses where I make my living. So in truth, I do not remember much about writing “Quiet in the House of the Rising Sun”. It was written in a period where I took a couple of traditional songs and wrote my own songs that used the setting of the traditional song for my own images and characters. Here, I tried to expand the imagery of “House Of The Rising Sun” by using an omniscient narrator. I wanted to show the house and the people living and interacting in the house and speculate on the motives and fates of those people rather than limit it to one woeful voice.”
