On this edition of Handful O’ Nickels, musician and author Alan Paul takes over the playlist with a curated selection of songs inspired by his new book Brothers and Sisters: The Allman Brothers Band and the Inside Story of the Album That Defined the ’70s. Paul explores both the band’s origins and evolution, capturing the principal characters, events, and cultural impact of the album to tell the story of a drifting group rising above the loss of core founders Duane Allman and Berry Oakley to ignite a new sound that would affect the outfit’s mythology forever after. It’s a work of love that nevertheless refuses to shy away from the colorful if complicated history of one of the 20th Century’s most significant bands.
Alan Paul will be signing copies of his book at Capricorn Sound Studios & Museum at 5pm on Friday, August 11th.
