With a voice dreamily suited for both pedal steel or cranked distortion, Caitlin Rose enchants and possesses songs, haunting each line, chord, and fragile moment with charm and maybe a touch of madness. Rose’s 2010 debut full-length album Own Side Now offered up pop crush with subtle studio sophistication that defied easy category and on her 2013 follow-up The Stand-In, Caitlin’s knack for melody and phrasing combined with a Laurel Canyon vintage warmth on a record that wasn’t quite country, more than a little rock n’ roll, and absolutely compelling. On her latest effort, CAZIMI, an album nearly a decade in the making, Rose measures up to any anticipation with wonder and glamour, vacillating between danceable indie-pop, garage reverb, and striking lyricism.
