Making its debut in the FCS playoffs, Mercer knocked off Gardner-Webb 17-7 on Saturday at Five Star Stadium. The Bears advance to the second round where they will face No. 1 South Dakota State next week.
Mercer (9-3) got two touchdown runs from quarterback Carter Peevy and a field goal from Reice Griffith and a strong performance from its defense to pull out the win. The Bears’ defense had three interceptions, including two in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
