Go on and add “glorious sense of humor” to Chris Stapleton’s long list of admirable attributes.
The Grammy-winning superstar appeared on the most recent episode of legendary sketch-comedy show Saturday Night Live, serving as the musical guest while Oscar-nominee Ryan Gosling returned as the evening’s official host.
Before the episode even debuted, audiences got a peek at Stapleton’s playfulness and willingness to join in on the fun with Gosling and the rest of the cast, appearing in a hysterical promo for the show that featured a starstruck Gosling snatching Stapleton’s signature hat in an attempt to become the soulful singer.
“Ken” you even imagine? (We know, we know, and we apologize for that one.)
Perhaps the most unexpected moment of Stapleton’s appearance at Studio 8H came during one of the season’s best digital shorts yet, a country music parody not-so-loosely inspired by Carrie Underwood’s smash hit “Before He Cheats,” which featured SNL stars Ego Nwodim, Chloe Fineman, and Chloe Troast as scorned women aiming to “Get That Boy Back.” The main boy in question was of course played effortlessly and hilariously by a usually-reserved Stapleton, and gave fans a chance to really see the guy underneath that famous hat (you know, the one Ryan Gosling tried to steal…)
Not surprisingly, Stapleton also brought one of the seasons most brilliant musical performances with “White Horse” and a solo acoustic performance of “Mountains Of My Mind,” both from his latest album Higher.
So the real question becomes… how much longer until Stapleton is billed as the musical guest and host? Consider this start of our petition.
