It was a Friday morning to remember and one we sure hope our distinguished guests, beloved local veterans, industry friends, and favorite artists are still talking about: the morning Macon, Georgia arrived in Nashville, Tennessee with a whole lot of soul and a truckload of biscuits to kick off our first-ever sanctioned showcase and event at the 2024 AmericanaFest.
Macon, Georgia’s Breakfast & A Show put the spotlight on the city’s musical past, present, and future during the two-hour inaugural event at the American Legion Post 82, which also featured pop-up shops from Capricorn Sound Studios & Museum, H&H Soul Food, the Otis Redding Foundation, Grant’s Lounge, Visit Macon, the Capitol Theatre, Grant’s Lounge, The Big House: The Allman Brothers Band Museum and of course a set from the Macon Music Revue so funky and out-of-this-world, it would make Little Richard stand up and shout. (Can we get a “Wooooooooo?!”)
And because manners matter and Southern hospitality is always in season, partygoers were also treated to a robust breakfast buffet done the H&H way with biscuits, sausage, ham, cheese grits, fruit, bacon jam and yes… even Betsy’s famous pimento cheese.
Macon Music Revue members Charles Davis, Caleb Melvin, Evan Bentzel, Dustin McCook, and Ethan Hamlin were joined by Umcolisi Terrell & Richard Sherrington a/k/a Terminus Horns as they brought a new type of soulful sound and set to the Legion’s stage, a local Nashville hotspot that, yes, is first and foremost a celebrated Legion hall for our veterans, but has also become a musical haven and hangout spot for country and western traditionalists, hipster movers and shakers, and honky-tonk enthusiasts alike. From Margo Price to Jack White to Sierra Ferrell and more, anybody who is anybody on the scene has graced that stage on a random weeknight for a set or two… or simply come to enjoy a cold beer and a dance to support their famous compadres and vets.
And don’t think for one second that this Macon morning party was without dancing. With flawless renditions of Otis Redding’s “Mr. Pitiful,” Little Richard’s “Greenwood, Mississippi,” and Wet Willie’s “Grits Ain’t Groceries” in the mix, it was hard for attendees to sit still.
Thankfully, they didn’t. After all, it’s good to get moving after all those delicious biscuits…
But that’s not all… we’ve got more photos and videos of The Creek’s Nashville adventures coming each day right here at thecreekfm.com. Stay tuned!
