Moments Notice

Moments Notice began when Alphonso Thomas, Leroy Wilson and Rob Walker, all former members of Air Force Bands, joined forces with John Larry Graham to experiment with challenging, intricate compositions like Mike Stern’s Tipitina’s just for fun. While in the Air Force Band, Al, Leroy and Rob had the opportunity to tour extensively throughout the US and Europe and perform with many world-renowned recording artists like Take 6, Aaron Neville, John Popper, Amy Grant, and Vince Gil. Tari Purcell later joined the group, and completed what is now Middle Georgia’s Moments Notice Band.

As band leader and saxophonist, Alphonso is emerging from a long hiatus, during which he served as a senior civilian leader for the Air Force. Prior to moving to Georgia in the mid 90s, Al performed and recorded regularly in the Boston area with many of his fellow Berklee College of Music students and alumni. He’s excited about returning to middle Georgia and about the prospect of performing and recording again with some of middle Georgia’s most outstanding musicians. The band is getting back together!
Tari performs on keyboard and is the featured vocalist for the band. Tari holds degrees from Georgia Southern University and from Georgia College and State University. In addition to always being in high demand by many groups in the middle GA area, he has been a featured performer with Disney Cruise Line.
John also plays bass and guitar for Chapel Hill Church and World Changers Church International in Atlanta, GA. He has performed at numerous jazz and gospel venues including Studio T in Douglasville, Ga, The Apollo Theater in NY, and the Douglass and Capital Theaters in Macon Georgia. He recently produced and released his first solo EP/CD, “Dwelling Place,” a collection of his own original compositions.
Playing guitar for Moments Notice, Rob is also a member of the Southern Rock band, Stillwater, who’s song “Mindbender” charted nationally in 1977. He has also shared the stage with many other southern rock legends including the Charlie Daniels Band, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Wet Willie and the Allman Brothers Band.
Leroy, the band’s drummer, started touring at the age of 13. After studying music at Virginia State University, he joined the Air Force, was selected for “Tops In Blue,” the Air Force’s premier entertainment showcase, and was later selected for the Air Force Band. Leroy has performed for millions on worldwide tours featuring such artists as Hootie and the Blowfish, Blues Traveler, Restless Heart, Jamie O’Neal, Lee Greenwood, Jessie James, The Chris Hicks Band and The Marshall Tucker Band.”
