Turnpike Troubadours, Red Clay Strays & Brent Cobb
Turnpike Troubadours, Red Clay Strays and Brent Cobb share the stage at the brand new Macon Amphitheater on April 27, 2024. The show is presented by 100.9 The Creek’s sister company, Moonhanger Presents, along with Mammoth.
After releasing five genre-defining albums and building a fiercely loyal fanbase, Turnpike Troubadours — the Tahlequah, Oklahoma kings of Red Dirt music — broke a three-year hiatus in 2023 with the release of the group’s sixth studio album, A Cat in the Rain. Produced by three-time Grammy winner Shooter Jennings and recorded at the legendary FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and in Los Angeles, the 10-song album is a tale of reliability, rebirth, and redemption. It’s the story of brothers — frontman and chief songwriter Evan Felker, fiddler Kyle Nix, steel player Hank Early, guitarist Ryan Engleman, bassist RC Edwards, drummer Gabe Pearson — six musicians who ran the gauntlet of success, scrutiny, and even personal troubles, and would fight tooth and nail for one another.
With a current slate of sell-out shows on their own all over the US, Red Clay Strays are one of the fast-rising bands in independent American roots music. From Mobile, AL, the band released its debut album Moment of Truth in 2022 and have kept the pedal to the metal ever since opening for notable hit-makers, making major festival appearances, headlining their own tour in fall of 2023 and kicking off the new year selling out Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Devotees are drawn to the mix of Sun Records and Southern Rock sounds and the wild magic of their full-on live shows.
The American south isn’t just Brent Cobb’s home. It’s his muse, too. A Georgia native, he fills his Grammy-nominated songwriting with the sounds and stories of an area that’s been home to southern rockers, soul singers, country legends, and bluesmen. Cobb has a name for that rich tapestry of music — “southern eclectic” — and he offers up his own version of it with his newest album, Southern Star, recorded in Macon at Capricorn Sound Studios.
