Remembering Eddie Cochran

On Sunday, April 17th, 1960, 21-year-old Eddie Cochran was killed after a blown tire sent his cab crashing into a lamp post on the Bath Road between Bristol and London, England.

Songwriter Sharon Sheeley, Cochran’s girlfriend, as well as his best friend Gene Vincent, were also in the vehicle but survived.

Cochran and Vincent had been on tour in England since January and performed their last scheduled show the night before at the Bristol Hippodrome.

A memorial to Cochran with his “Three Steps To Heaven” (Step one, you find a girl you love/ Step two, she falls in love with you/ Step three, you kiss and hold her tightly) marks the crash site in Chippenham.
